Knowledge, attitudes and practices of the inhabitants of the Kisenso gare district in Kinshasa (DRC) faced with water-related diseases

Abstract
This study consisted in evaluating the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the inhabitants of the Kisenso Gare district in Kinshasa in the face of water-related diseases. It is a transversal study carried out by survey of 148 inhabitants between September and December 2022. The results revealed 29.7% of respondents with an average level; 25.7% with an insufficient level; 24.3% with a good level and 20.3% with a poor level of knowledge on the modes of transmission. While with regard to knowledge on preventive measures, 33.1% had an average level; 29.1% had a bad level; 21.6% were insufficient and 16.2% had a good level. In addition, positive attitudes were observed in: 84.5% of respondents for the question of bringing patients into a health structure; 18.2% for the question of keeping patients at home and giving them medicine; 8.8% when it comes to putting patients on traditional treatment and 4.1% for the question of isolating patients suffering from water-related diseases. As for prevention practices, 83.8% of respondents treat drinking water; 85.1% maintain individual and collective hygiene; 85.8% maintain environmental sanitation and 82.4% refrain from bathing in wastewater.
